🎯 Tactics vs. Logistics | The Difference Matters

Hey Reader!

"Amateurs talk tactics, but professionals study logistics."
– General Robert H Barrow USMC

Tactics are important, of course. They are the specific plans and maneuvers that will be used to achieve a desired outcome. However, without proper logistics, even the best tactics will be useless. In the military, logistics is the art of moving and supplying troops, equipment, and supplies. It is the behind-the-scenes work that makes it possible for troops to fight and win battles.

Without logistics, troops would not have the food, water, ammunition, or other supplies they need to survive and fight. They would not be able to move quickly and effectively to where they are needed. And they would not be able to sustain themselves over time.

Logistics is often overlooked, but it is essential to success. Professionals know that logistics is just as important as tactics, and they study it accordingly.

This quote can be applied to many different aspects of life.

For example in business having a good website or brand messaging video is just one tactic in a sales funnel. You need to orchestrate the logistics for the entire sales funnel for it to be successful.

For a successful sales funnel you need the logistics to move information to a potential customer to take them from simple awareness to becoming a superfan of your organization or product.

Your health is another example.

Going to the gym is a single tactic to improving health, but you need a full logistic plan to move your health to where it should be: eating properly, drinking enough water, and getting enough sleep. The single tactic of going to the gym could be negated by other poor health tactics, e.g. eating donuts, staying up until 2am, etc.. That is why you should consider logistics when working on your health. How can you move your health from point A to B? What tactics do I need to apply in order to be successful?

How can you apply the knowledge of tactics and logistics to your everyday life or business?

Hello Reader! Today I finally made it back to the CrossFit gym. The last time I went was back in March. I love going to the local CrossFit gym. The people there are amazing and after the workout (though it kills sometimes) I feel amazing 97% of the time. What probably triggered this fresh start was partially due to looking at one of my favorite books, Atomic Habits by James Clear. It made me internalize again the principles of starting a good habit or breaking a bad one. It's not rocket...
